At least that’s what David Bowie sings:
Song was released in 1997 but I just heard of it.
No real message except maybe for the fact that he’s afraid of
Americans and of the World. The wannabe message is that: “The
invasion by any homogenized culture is depressing”*
What I find shocking is the claim at the end of the song, no less
than: “God is an American”. This was an instant WTF. How come?
Where was God before
1776?
Was He born after that? Was He British? Was He a native of this
blessed land when it was taken over by the British and later became
the US? Did the Americans give God a green** card? (hahaha) When
they say
”In God We Trust”
do they refer to the fact that they trust themselves?
Think about the damn lyrics before you write and sing them.
Goddammit.
