Airports... The Hotels of the Recession

Now that the recession is kicking in [or that’s what the media is constantly telling us effectively contributing to the mass panic] one of the best thing you can do is travel for cheap prices and see things you couldn’t afford to see before [or at least that’s what I hear]. Cool, right?
Except that when you get to actually wanting to do such a thing you find out it’s not as cheap as you expect. So you start analyzing the “cost reducing options” that will still make the trip possible. Bear with me…
So, a nice mini vacation usually means: flight+hotel+rental car+food.
You don’t actually need the car as any place that doesn’t have good transit alternatives is not worth visiting anyway. Cost reduced.
You can always eat less. Or you can eat not-so-healthy food [you ain’t gonna die if you do this for a few days, right? And you’ll put on some fat to prove that you’ve been on the dream minivacation]. Either way cost reduced again.
That leaves us with the flight+hotel.
Since you cannot fly by yourself you still need to take the airplane. You can get around this by taking the flight at the most undesirable hours and with the worst airlines. Sure, you will be missing some “fun time” by doing this and will not know if you arrive in one piece at the destination. But, what the heck! The adrenaline is worth it. Cost reduced!
And since we’re doing extreme things, why not simply give up at staying in a hotel and sleep in the airport. The plane leaves you there, right? Use it to your advantage.

Reviews, recomandations, tips and tricks. How about that? Why didn’t anyone tell us about this before?? Whyyy?
Here is a “sample” review:

After wandering around the airport for a while, i discovered the perfect spot for a sleepover, or maybe lay down and relax.. i dont remember much, if im not mistaken, you have to go all the way to the left til you reach the elevator and go up, and around the BART terminal and the eating place (cant recall if it was a restaurant or fast food), ask for the restrooms there, and right in front of them (actually right in front of one of those stores where you can weight your luggage, before the restrooms) you will find my spot, a corner with a socket so you can plug the laptop and watch a movie or something, carpet floor to lay on, nobody around, restrooms and drinking fountain very close.. oh, and i dont know if this is still working (im talking about april 08), in the mens restroom, if you go to the handicapped toilet, you might get a free hotspot
