American History

Let’s say you’re interested in American History.
More than knowing about some basic facts that everybody know. For instance, what sparked my interest is the Louisiana Purchase. I decided to look into the history of the USA a little deeper. Found a really interesting book called:, hold on, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to American History.See it here: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Guide-American-History/dp/1592574769

The book itself is sort of interesting and has a pragmatic approach to American History, trying to keep it simple and not missing essential parts. Probably this is why I choose this book over similar ones when I browsed through the History Bookshelves at Barnes & Noble. One thing, though, made me hesitate when I bought it. You’ve guessed it: Why does it have to have “The Complete Idiot’s” in the title? Am I a complete idiot regarding American History? Probably not considering that I know the bare essential. What makes you a complete idiot? Or maybe I am a complete idiot for buying a book that has this in the title, thus admitting it.
Anyways, I took the book home and started to read it. It’s interesting to see how the US evolved and it’s easier to understand some of the things that happen to today in the middle east.
As I was reading through the book I realised a very annoying thing: it had no maps. I agree that this is not a geography book, but you’d expect to find at least 2-3-4 maps in a history book, especially one that deals with such a great teritorial expansion as that of the US. Well, no. No maps. Case solved. You have to be a complete idiot to buy a history book without one single map embeded. Which I am. :)
