The Carpool Lane

I was telling you in a previous post about traffic.
Now I introduce to you a new notion. The carpoollane. I was quite intrigued the first time I heard this name for the lane. What is it? It’s basically a lane, normally on highways, that is dedicated for carpools. Meaning cars carrying more than 1 person. (Sometimes it can mean even more than two). You can also find it under the name of HOV lane, where the HOV stands for high occupancy vehicle.

So what’s the big deal? The big deal is that around here almost everyone travels alone in their cars. So the number of car that carry multiple people << the number of car that carry just one. So this is the way to reward the ones that travel in groups (did I mention that buses use this lane also). You consume less gass and thus help the environment, we get you there faster. As you guessed the rush our is when the carpool is really a smart idea. As other are just stanfing you hoover by them. :)
I tried imagining how things would look in Romania, if there was such a thing as a carpool lane (if we had any [real] highways … ). Probably at rush hour the lane would be used by everyone and thus the ones in 1+ persons cars will be stuck in traffic with everyone else. Not here. Here they don’t joke about things like that. The rules are the rules and if you get caught breaking them it won’t be a pleasent experience (and you will get caught because somehow everyone has a high sense of civic duty and apply the rules almost blindly sometimes forgetting why they were put there in the first place).
And because entertaiment is a must in every post (NOT) here is a nice short movie about carpool lanes :)
Enjoy:

And another movie, related to the first one:

If you’re still reading after watching the 2nd movie, remember that You are amazing. You are awesome. You are great.
