A while ago, when learning about the beautiful American Culture, I
saw something that seemed wrong. For some reason most of Americans
seemed to hate the French.
I myself had a neutral to positive opinion about French. Everybody
knows about Paris, French cousine and the
Eiffel tower. So
learning about the French seemed a good idea.
This was about to change when the Sequoia cones incident
happened.
While visiting a famous
Sequoia grove I
noticed a sign forbidding to pick up the cones –
huge cones
(presumably a Sequoia cone). Not that I was going to, but the sign
made it more clear. Walking around I saw a few giant cones and
thought they are really cool. Then it happened: two people (a he
and a she) noticed one of these cones and thought it would be cool
to take it home. If you don’t know, Americans always follow the
posted rules. And when I say always, I mean always, even if it’s a
dumb rule like “don’t scratch your chin”. Anyway, I immediately
knew that those people where not Americans, so I tried to figure
out what they were. To my surprise they were French (the 7 years
wasted well spent learning French while in school payed out).
As an educated man, that I am, I assumed that was an isolated thing
and French don’t usually pick up big cones. What do you know? It
happened again. With another couple this time. And then again. So I
started seeing a pattern: French like to take cones home.
There you have it, one of the many reasons Americans hate French!
