Today’s topic: American Cars
So, we all heard about American cars. What’s the deal with them,
how do the Americans feel about them?
Scene1:
A shift is just ended at an American car factory somewhere. People
are leaving home. They’ve done the job they are payed to do, the
benefits are good. Bottom line is that everybody that works here is
a good “provider” to their family. The union is strong, work
conditions are good, benefits are great. The takeaway from this is
that they regard making cars as one of the major activities that
fuels the economy. Remember that almost anything that moves around
here is using gasoline.
Scene2:
Some other workers are leaving the factory. Maybe the same factory
or another (car unrelated) factory. They climb into their cars and
go home. To your surprise most of the cars are not made in the US.
Toyota and Honda rule over here. Why? Well… it has better fuel
consumption, it breaks down less, it has a better design, it’s
cheaper, you name it. You see, although they understand the
importance of the car manufacturing business, most Americans are
really careful what they spend their money on in terms of cars
(yes, it is big deal if your car breaks down. over here, if you
don’t have a car you cannot do anything).
So, who buys American cars? Could it be that some part of the fact
that the industry is in deep sh… is due to non performant,
overpriced cars? It could.
And to balance the post a little, here is an American Car whose
design, I personally like:
