Today’s topic: American Food
Well, the topic of food here in the US is a somewhat controversial.
From the outside it seems that almost everybody is eating junk food
and obesity is the king. I wouldn’t say that the situation is like
this, but the highly processed cheap food that is widely available
is sure helping you get fat fast. So in case of the obesity that
can in the long run turn out to be a problem.
Scene1: At a supermarket. You’re trying to buy some carrots. You
have to choose between what seem normal carrots and organic
carrots. If you don’t know what organic means, the logical question
is: why should I buy these expensive carrots that are twice as
expensive as these ‘normal carrots’? BTW: Here is what organic
means:

And if you buy the normal carrots, take them home and wash them
you’ll have the big surprise to see that the water you wash them in
turns orange. Kinda like washing out the paint on them. Isn’t that
cool? So before thinking of buying something not organic, think
twice. Your body will have to process all the crap that has been
put into the stuff you’re buying.
Scene2: At a generic cafeteria, you want to eat a stake with some
mashed potatoes. You ask for it, the nice person behind the counter
puts the stake and the mashed potatoes on a nice round plate and…
asks you if you want gravy over your stake and potatoes. The first
thing that I’ve asked was: what is gravy? Well, as it turns out
it’s the sauce that if you choose, can go over your stake. The
sauce that doesn’t have and exceptional taste or texture but for
some reason everybody wants it. If you don’t want it, you’re a
weirdo. So, there is a thing for all kind of sauces. And they take
it to extreme. Don’t believe me? The supermarket aisle which holds
the sauces will make you believe me. There are literally tens of
types of sauces. Wtf? Are this people so shallow that they can eat
anything as long as it has the ‘right’ sauce on top?
Scene3: You’re on a road trip. After a while hunger strikes and you
want to get something to eat. Assuming that you don’t want to shell
out outrageous amounts of green bills, guess what you’re gonna eat?
Denny’s? Wendy’s? McDonald’s ? Burger King? Quiznos? KFC? And the
list continues… And goes on and on. With one constant: it’s fast
food. Check out the full list here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fast_food_restaurants.
It’s unbelievable.
Instead of a conclusion: When technology meets the food industry
this usually spells disaster for the options people have in eating.
Of course there will always be the ‘healthy’ choice, IF you have he
money and time needed to research it.
