These are some tough times we’re going through. At least that’s
what the media is telling us, constantly fueling the panic.
In this sea of bad things and unhappy people, saving money seems
like the only logical thing you can try to do to survive. One of
the big expenses you have each month is the premium for the auto
insurance. You know, that thing that you probably don’t need, but
you’re paying anyway in case the unthinkable happens. So, in this
tough economic climate, the auto insurance companies see an
opportunity to make you switch to one of their products in the idea
that you’ll be saving money. Shitloads of money. You are shown
“success” stories and you probably are the dumbest person alive if
you don’t take these opportunities to save hundreds, if not
thousands of dollars per year. NOT.
From all this friendly insurance companies I find Geico to be the
most annoying one. It’s either the green ‘lizard’
or the money with the eyes that are constantly bombarding you with
promises of saved money. They go out of their way to make you
notice them and give them a try. They do this so often that at some
point it’s annoying. What happens when you get a quote (estimate)
from them? Well, the commercial is one thing, the reality is
another. At least in my case I was hit with a quote that it’s
higher than what I’m currently paying. Much higher! 40% higher. So
at this point we have 2 possibilities: they are either lying in
their commercials or I am an atypical customer. How exactly I am
atypical I don’t know. Could it be that the car is almost new? That
I haven’t had any claims until now?
For me at least, the product not being the same as advertised is a
big minus. It immediately translates to: don’t try them. Not now,
not ever. So it seems that I won’t be trying the green lizard
insurance. My loss.
