This post is not going to be easy to digest so if you don’t want to ruin your day please don’t read it.
The topic is human stupidity and how people can be easily manipulated to do whatever you need them to. The lame part is that usually this is masked under some charity work that should help everyone and should make you feel good that you are a better person.
We’ve all heard about Haiti and the terrible disaster that struck that unfortunate country. It’s normal that some well known organizations will give them a hand in the needed recovery process. What I don’t find normal is that suddenly there are 10000 charities that are gathering funds to help the ‘relief’ effort. Everyone seems to be stepping in into the front line of the assistance provided for Haiti. You probably think that it okay to give to some random organization as long as they are helping, right? Well, the bottom line, and you won’t see this being said by all this ‘charity’ organizations is that only a percent of the money they gather actually go to helping Haiti. Where do the rest go? Administrative fees and expenses, of course.
So if you think about it for a second, everybody uses this disaster to channel money into their lame ass organization. This is outrageous. Tricking people to believe that they are helping and channeling most of the funds to other ‘expenses’.
The other thing that I’d like to talk about is helping well established organizations, for example the Red Cross, to make an impact in the life of those who needed. If you really want to help, you will donate to the Red Cross each year regardless of the circumstances. Also, if you really want to help others and look further than in your own yard, you probably know that many countries (especially 3rd World Countries) need constant help. It doesn’t take a natural disaster for those people to be on the edge and to not know if they’re gonna see the daylight tomorrow. So, if you only care about Haiti and donate for this specific cause now just because it’s trendy and everyone is talking about it, you are in fact a big stupid hypocrite.
So in conclusion, if you really care about the fate of human beings that are in desperate need for help, donate only to well established organization were you have the guarantee that the money [or food etc] will actually reach those in need. Do it on a regular basis.
